Thanks for reminding me, Linda, that I love reading too!

I was reading the blog of one of my new blogger buddies, grandmalindashouse.blogspot.com, and read how much she and her family love reading.  It is the same at our house.  When my kids were little I would get up in the morning, early, so I could read my book before I started breakfast.  I didn't like getting up right away and getting right to work.  Of course my kids would hear me and one by one trail into the living room.  I told them that they could get up too if they read a book.  So, we would be lined up on the couch with our noses deep in the middle of a book for at least 1/2 hour before they got ready for school.  I never allowed the t.v. on before school unless there was a dire emergency in the country-which hardly ever happened-so it just wasn't on.

As I was thinking about all of this it reminded me of a great book that I was just telling my teacher, the anthropologist, that she needed to read.  It's called "The Glass Castle".  It's a true story about a women that grows up in a homeless family.  In fact you can youtube her and see her interview her mother who still lives in a hovel.  The author has become a very successful writer of columns, books, etc.  I mean this lady is amazing!  When they were dirt poor she even made her own braces.  Check her teeth out when you see her picture and you'll think that she's a dang good amateur orthodontist!  Seriously I really didn't want to read it when we chose it for our book club but my friend prevailed and we read it.  I was mesmerized and it's one of those stories that you think about forever.  It's not always an easy book to read but it's so rewarding.  I love books about people that conquer something that seems so insurmountable.  Plus it's so hilarious in parts.  I loved it!

  3. Yes, you need to read that book! Well, my daughter, Gracie, did it for me. I'll ask her and see if I can find out for you. I, myself, am clueless. She just asked me yesterday how I liked that. She had put it on for fun. She's always tweaking my blog.
